This safari will take you to three of Uganda’s western wilderness parks with remarkable physical features of the Great Western Rift Valley, crater lakes and savannah grassy plains that support a large population of wildlife in the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The thick deep mature trees and the foliage of the Bwindi impenetrable forest is home to half of the globes endangered Mountain Gorilla population. This habitat transverses towards the lowlands tropical forest of Kibale with a high concentration of primates, Butterflies and the largest population of forest elephant in Uganda.
KAMPALA - BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FORESTAfter your welcome breakfast, we drive southwards passing through the lush green varied vegetation from savannah woodlands and plains to shrubby vegetation. After driving for approximately an hour, you will have the wonderful opportunity to visit the Equator and take photos of the northern/southern hemispheres. Drive to Mbarara town, for an hour’s lunch break and continue to the beautifully terraced hills of the Kigezi Highlands and finally to the territory of the Gorillas. Have an early dinner and pre-briefing at your camp from your guide about your Gorilla Trek.
GORILLA TREKKING – BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FORESTArise early to the humming forest sounds of this ancient jungle for your breakfast. With your packed lunch, we will go for the pre-trek briefing from the rangers who will tell you what to expect in the jungle. Your trek may last anywhere from three to eight hours depending on where the gorillas are resting on any particular day. Therefore, your physical stamina and fitness ability are tested. There are local porters that can be hired who will help carry your backpack and gear. By hiring a porter you will be contributing directly to the surrounding community and get assistance when manoeuvring through the Impenetrable Forest! All of your efforts will be completely replenished, when you come within ears reach of the mighty mountain gorilla. Once your ranger locates the family of gorillas your group will have an entire hour to observe and photograph the incredible scenes that take place. After the hour to view the gorillas is complete, your rangers and the entire group will begin the journey back to camp. During your dinner at your camp, you will openly talk about your jungle experiences with other travellers. In all, the Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is a memory to last you your entire life!
BWINDI - QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARKThe humming of the jungle creatures set the pace of our day. After breakfast, we journey to Ishasha, the southern part of Queen Elizabeth NP. Here we seek the Tree Climbing lions, which are only found in two places in Africa. Following the, we have our afternoon meal and later in the evening, we head off again for an evening drive to the Katwe area to enjoy and admire the beautiful scenery! On your way back we may be able to see nocturnal creatures not commonly seen on our morning game drives. Before we retire, we feast on dinner at your camp.
QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARKAfter an early morning wake-up call, we have breakfast and hop into your vehicle begin your day of safari adventure. This drive should surely take you through buffalo herds, elephant schools and a variety of antelope. The entire day you will be on the prowl for the big cats, as they stealthily hunt down their prey. The guides well trained eye will come to great service here. After having our lunch at the Mweya peninsula, we are bound to have a few warthogs encroaching on us. Thereafter we head to the channel to experience a momentous 2-hour cruise along the 40 km Kazinga channel. This natural channel connects LakeEdward and Lake George with plenty of hippos wading in the cool water. Highly likely elephant or buffalo will try and escape the heat and wade closer to the channel banks. A striking number and variety of birds will complete your day. The captain of the boat will also have his eyes peeled for the elusive monitor lizards!
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK - KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARKFollowing your breakfast, we drive out of Queen Elizabeth National Park having a spectacular view of the rift valley and the “mountains of the moon” the Rwenzori Mountain. We have a lunch break at your accommodation and in the evening you go for a nature walk to the “top of the world” which allows amazing photo opportunities and the chance to view the unique scenery. Dinner at your camp.
CHIMPANZEE TRACKING - KIBALE FORESTA nice breakfast creates an energetic start for your search for the forest habitants. Spend half the day in this well adorned forest with great sights of the various species of Colobus monkeys and baboons. We walk through the flat landscape listening to the melodies of the lovely forest birds as we search for our closest family relation; the endangered chimpanzees. Your senses are at alert, as you see, feel, hear and smell the forest. Never missing out on the little forest dwellers, the beetles doing their thing together with the beautifully patterned butterflies. In the afternoon, we head to Bigodi swamp for a community walk that makes any birdlover proud. You have fantastic photo opportunities to really get a sense and feel the different types of landscape in Uganda. Dinner at your camp.
KIBALE FOREST- FORT PORTAL - KAMPALAAfter departing the Kibale area, you travel to the town of Fort Portal, exposing the different sceneries of large tea estates and banana plantations. We drive on to Nyakasura to the legendary “Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru” which literally mean ‘the breasts of Mwiru’s mother’. The known stalagmites and stalactites are linked with a great history and culture that defines the people of the Tooro Kingdom. Drive back to Kampala for lunch on route. After the lunch break, you depart from the airport or you could have opted for another night in Kampala; This we would arrange together with a complimentary airport transfer.
